Benzoic acid tert-butyl ester is an anticancer compound that has shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme allylic hydroperoxide lyase and can be used as a polymerization initiator. This substance belongs to the class of organic compounds known as esters. It is synthesized from benzoate and an allyl alcohol by isobutene oxidation, followed by reaction with chlorine atoms in an organic solvent such as chloroform or dichloromethane. The resulting product is then reacted with a second molecule of benzoate to form an ester linkage with the hydroxyl group on one end. This method produces benzoic acid tert-butyl ester in high yield, making it an efficient method for its synthesis.
