1-[2-(4-Bromophenoxy)ethyl]piperidine is an alkene analog that has been shown to bind to the estrogen receptor in a receptor-mediated manner. The binding of 1-[2-(4-bromophenoxy)ethyl]piperidine to the estrogen receptor can lead to gene transcription and bioisosterism, which are important in cancer prevention. Tamoxifen, a well-known anti-estrogen drug, is an analog of 1-[2-(4-bromophenoxy)ethyl]piperidine. Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), such as tamoxifen, have been found to be more effective than nonselective ER agonists or antagonists. SERMs act by binding to the estrogen receptor and activating it selectively, depending on the tissue type.
