1,2,4,5-Tetrachloro-3,6-dimethylbenzene is an organic compound that contains a methyl group and an alkali metal. It is a synthetic chemical that belongs to the class of chlorinated hydrocarbons. It has been used as a solvent in the manufacture of other chemicals such as xylene and cyclohexane. The tetrachloride salt of this substance is used as a reagent in the synthesis of phosphonium salts and chloride ion transfer agents. 1,2,4,5-Tetrachloro-3,6-dimethylbenzene is also used as an intermediate in the production of arsenious acid and other compounds with chlorine substituents.
