The mechanism of action of 7-tridecanol is not known, but it may inhibit carboxylate groups or reversibly form acetyl derivatives with the cell membrane. This compound also inhibits the activity of primers by competitively binding to DNA at the 3' position during the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process.
