3-Ethyl-o-xylene is a hydrocarbon with a chemical formula of C8H12. It is an alkyl alkane that has a boiling point of 220°C (428°F) and a density of 0.8 g/cm3. 3-Ethyl-o-xylene is soluble in ether and insoluble in water. This compound has a crystalline structure with a melting point of -97°C (-144°F). 3-Ethyl-o-xylene is produced by the reaction of ethylene with oxygen, chlorine, or bromine. It can also be synthesized from acetaldehyde and acetic acid catalyzed by zeolite or from formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide catalyzed by methyl ethyl ketone. 3-Ethyl-o-xylene can be used as an industrial developer in photography and as an intermediate to produce other chemicals such as fatty acids and aromatic hydrocarbons.br>br
