(8R,9S,10S,13S,14S)-13-Methyl-3,17-dioxo-2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17-tetradecahydro-1H-cyclopenta[A]phenanthrene-10-carbalde hyde is a molecule that can bind to the active site of an enzyme and inhibit its activity. It has been shown to have binding constants to the testes enzyme and has been used in model studies of this enzyme catalysis. It also inhibits the activity of the enzyme in diabetic patients. The compound has not been found to be toxic or mutagenic in rats. It is also a competitive inhibitor with an oxygenated hydroxyl group that binds to the substrate by way of a hydrogen bond. The irreversible nature of this type of inhibition means that there is no recovery from inhibition once it occurs
