1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexaethyldisiloxane is a synthetic compound that is used in the manufacture of polymers. It is also used to produce the drug silicones and other organic compounds. The film-forming polymer can be useful in manufacturing contact lenses and medical devices. 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexaethyldisiloxane is also used as a reaction solvent for products that are insoluble in water. It has also been shown to be an effective solid catalyst for the synthesis of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid from hydrogen fluoride and sulfur trioxide. 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexaethyldisiloxane has been found to have a beneficial effect on hematopoietic cells in mice when administered at low doses by intraperitoneal injection or intravenously.
