Description

Preisocalamendiol (PSD) is a shyobunone derivative that has been shown to be a stereoselective bioactive compound. It has been shown to inhibit the neurodegenerative disease in rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Preisocalamendiol also has anti-inflammatory properties, shown by its effects on muscle cells. This drug is able to catalyze the conversion of phenylpropanoids into phenylpropanolamines, which are products of tyrosine metabolism. Preisocalamendiol is oxidized at the 3-position of the prenyl side chain, making it an oxygenated compound that can act as a chiral agent. The preisopropyl group allows for this molecule to bind with proteins in an irreversible manner and can lead to infarction in cerebral tissue.
