Description

Closantel is a drug used to treat intestinal parasites. It is a light-sensitive, white crystalline powder that has a bitter taste and has no odor. Closantel can be administered orally or by injection, and is usually given as an oral liquid preparation that contains hydrochloric acid. Closantel belongs to the class of anthelmintics that are effective against most species of nematodes and cestodes (roundworms and flatworms) that infect the human intestine. The drug primarily acts on the parasites' reproductive system, which leads to their death. Closantel is used for the treatment of ascariasis, trichuriasis, enterobiasis, strongyloidiasis, pinworm infestations, whipworm infestations, hookworm infestations and some types of hydatid disease.
