Description :
Ethyl 6-methoxybenzofuran-2-carboxylate is an inhibitor of human cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. It is a hydroxylase product of benzaldehyde and methylamine. The reactions take place in the presence of sodium ethoxide and acetic acid at room temperature. The compound has been shown to be an efficient photolysed, which means that it can be broken down by light exposure. In addition, it inhibits the activity of enzymes such as thiols and benzoquinones, which are involved in drug metabolism and development.
