Description

p-Xylenolphthalein is a yellow compound that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It has acidic properties with a pH of 2.5. This chemical can be used as an additive to dyes, paints, and other coloring agents. It also functions as a pH indicator with a color change from yellow to red at pH 2.5. p-Xylenolphthalein is used in the production of alizarin, bromocresol green, and phenolphthalein. The skeleton of this compound consists of two benzene rings connected by two methoxy groups, which form the hydrophobic group. The reactive group is composed of sulfonic acid (-SO3H).
