Description

7-Chloro-D-tryptophan is a molecule that is used in the biosynthesis of kynurenine, which is an intermediate in the catabolism of tryptophan. Tryptophan is first converted to 7-chlorotryptophan by the enzyme tryptophanase and then converted to kynurenine by the enzyme kynureninase. It can be found in enterobacteria, nitrobenzene, or other organisms. There are two enantiomers of 7-chloro-D-tryptophan: L and D. The L form has been shown to be more active than the D form against skin infections when tested on mutant strains of bacteria. 7-Chloro-D-tryptophan is also used as a reagent for racemization reactions with proteins.
