Description :
2-(2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)ethanol is a tributyltin radical, which is used in the synthesis of cycloheptenes. The convergent synthesis of cycloheptenes involves two steps, the first being the formation of an enolate by a base and the second step being a nucleophilic addition to form a six membered ring system. In this reaction, the bromine atom acts as both an electrophile and a leaving group. This process is considered to be regioselective because only one product can be formed.
