Description

Gamithromycin is a glycol ester that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial peptidoglycan. It is used to treat serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Gamithromycin binds to monoclonal antibodies and prevents them from binding to the bacterial cell wall, inhibiting the production of peptidoglycan. This structural similarity to tilmicosin has made it difficult to develop gamithromycin resistance in bacteria, which may be due to its low concentration-time curve.
