(S)-2,2′-Dibromo-1,1′-binaphthalene is a brominated organic compound that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of dibromoarene. It is synthesized by heating 2,2′-dibromobenzophenone with sodium borohydride and sodium hydroxide in methanol. This product can be used as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of electrophiles from alcohols and acetylenes. The high efficiency of this method has been demonstrated by microwave irradiation.
