Ethyl 1-benzyl-3-hydroxypiperidine-4-carboxylate is a chiral compound that is used to synthesize enantiomerically pure benzylic alcohols. The compound has been shown to be active against candida parapsilosis and other fungi, but not against microorganisms. Ethyl 1-benzyl-3-hydroxypiperidine-4-carboxylate has been shown to be selective for the (-)enantiomer of parapsilosis, while being inactive against the (+)enantiomer.
