Description

Sulfasalazine is a drug that has a basic structure and is composed of two parts: the amino acid 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) and sulfapyridine. It helps to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators, such as prostaglandins. Sulfasalazine also inhibits DNA synthesis in some cancer cells, including colon cancer cells. This drug also binds to α1-acid glycoprotein, which is involved in allergic reactions and infectious diseases. Sulfasalazine can be used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Sulfasalazine is an anti-inflammatory medication that relieves symptoms of ulcerative colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases by reducing the amount of prostaglandins in the body.
