• Description: Amrinone is a phosphodiesterase type 3 inhibitor that is used in the treatment of congestive heart failure. It is considered a vasodilator that increases stroke volume and cardiac output by stimulating myocardial contractility. Amrinone results in increased cAMP and cGMP which leads to an increase in calcium influx thus creating a positive inotropic effect.
