Description

Methyl 9-octadecynoate is a fatty acid ester that is used as a radical scavenger. It has been shown to be highly active in the chemical reactions of proton, fatty acid, and methylene transfer. Methyl 9-octadecynoate can also help stabilize the structure of the fatty acids by shielding the reactive methylene group. This product can be synthesized by reacting oleic acid with methanol in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The resultant product is then treated with chlorosulfonic acid to produce methyl 9-octadecynoate. The carbonyl group on this product can act as a nucleophile and form a new bond with another molecule or atom, such as chloride. This reaction leads to cleavage products, which are not harmful to human health.
