Dipyridin-2-ylmethane is a compound that has been studied for its anticancer activity. It is an organometallic compound with a nitrogen atom in the 2 position, which can be allylated by ethyl diazoacetate to form dipyridin-2-ylethane. This allylation reaction occurs at room temperature and is accelerated by heat. The anticancer activity of this molecule may be due to steric interactions between the heteroatoms, carbonyl groups, and coordination complexes. Dipyridin-2-ylmethane has also been shown to react with copper in an inorganic acid solution to form a copper complex.
