2-[bis(carboxymethyl)amino]benzoic acid (2BCMA), also known as Trolox, is a molecule that belongs to the class of carboxylates. 2BCMA has been shown to have strong hydration properties and can be used for the prevention of dehydration. 2BCMA has been shown to have a mononuclear structure in water, which means that it only interacts with one water molecule at a time. In addition, 2BCMA is able to form hydrogen bonding interactions due to its fluorescence properties. The emission spectrum of 2BCMA has been studied by x-ray crystal structures and fluorescence measurements. These studies showed that the excited state of this compound is mainly in the form of a tetranuclear species, which means that two molecules are involved in the emission process.
