Description

1-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-1-ethanone oxime is a substance that is used in the treatment of staphylococcal infections. It inhibits the production of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). In vitro, 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1-ethanone oxime has been shown to inhibit the growth of MSSA and MRSA by adsorbing to the bacterial cell wall. The mechanism is not fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to bind to abietane and isobutyl groups found in the bacterial cell wall. 1-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-1-ethanone oxime also inhibits xanthate degradation in activated sludge and has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Alcaligenes faecalis,
