3,6-Dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzenecarbaldehyde is a chemical compound that has been shown to have anti-leukemia activity. It acts by inhibiting the virus type leukemia virus, which causes leukemia in humans. 3,6-Dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzenecarbaldehyde also inhibits the growth of Leishmania parasites and has been shown to be active against other viruses such as HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1. The mechanism of action for this compound is not yet fully understood, but it may involve an aromatization reaction followed by a cycloaddition reaction with quinones.
