Description

Europium oxide is a compound of europium, an element in the lanthanide series. Europium is used in a variety of applications such as chemical reactions, lasers and fluorescent materials. Europium oxide has been used for analytical purposes as it has a high resistance to thermal expansion. This property is useful for measurements that are taken at high temperatures. The synergic effect of europium oxide with gadolinium has also been studied. Europium oxide is mixed with gadolinium to form a matrix that can be used to calibrate the laser ablation technique for measuring the concentration of europium in the environment. The thermodynamic data of europium oxide are available from surfactant sodium dodecyl and plasma mass spectrometry studies.
