Description

Catalpalactone is a dopamine-derived compound that is found in catalposide, a natural product derived from the bark of the Peruvian cat's claw tree. Catalpalactone has shown anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of inflammatory bowel disease. It also inhibits insulin resistance, which may be related to its ability to inhibit fat cell formation and increase fatty acid oxidation. Catalpalactone activates TNF-α, which is involved in the inflammatory response and could be beneficial for Crohn's disease. In addition, this compound can increase the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and suppress the expression of Fructus, an endogenous inhibitor of inflammation.
