- Diethyl Pyridine-3,4-Dicarboxylate
Diethyl pyridine-3,4-dicarboxylate (DEP) is a pyridine compound that can be synthesized in two steps from cyclopentadiene. It undergoes two reactions with bipyridines to produce the product, bipyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid diethyl ester. The synthesis of DEP was first reported by R.F. Muth in the early 1930s. The compound has been studied for its use as a solar cell material and found to be an effective light absorber, due to its high electron mobility and low band gap energy. The compound also has potential applications in electronic devices such as solar cells and photodetectors because of its functional groups, including isothiazole and quinones.
