Description

3-(4-Bromophenyl)-1-phenyl-2-propen-1-one is a synthetic compound that acts as a potent inducer of enzymes that metabolize xenobiotics. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the liver enzyme 3-methylcholanthrene, which is involved in the metabolism of carcinogenic hydrocarbons such as benzopyrene. This compound also inhibits cholesterol synthesis and can be used as a dietary supplement in humans. The functional group of 3-(4-bromophenyl)-1-phenyl-2-propen-1-one is a dipole, which gives it its reactivity. The molecule can be synthesized from acetophenone and bromine.
