2,3,4,4a,9,9a-hexahydro-1h-carbazole (HCH) is a selective sensitizer for organic solar cells. HCH absorbs in the bathochromic region and has a high extinction coefficient. The parameters of HCH are introduced to improve the efficiency and stability of organic solar cells. The introduction of HCH in the organic solar cell system leads to an increase in the yield and an improvement in the stability. It also shifts the absorption edge to longer wavelengths by increasing the band gap. The use of 2,3,4,4a,9,9a-hexahydro-1h-carbazole can be used as a substitute for 1,3-diethylbenzene (DEB) with comparable performance.
