n-Octyl phenyl ether (NPEO) is a chemical compound that contains a hydroxyl group and an ether. NPEO is chemically stable, but it is not resistant to oxidizing agents such as potassium dichromate or phosphorus pentoxide. It has also shown high resistance to skin cells, redox potential, and particle size. NPEO has been used as a model system in the study of chitosan polymers and fatty acids due to its surfactant properties. This chemical was used in a study on the effects of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on the skin barrier function of human keratinocytes.
