- N-(pyridin-4-yl)pyridin-4-amine
Bis(4-pyridyl)amine is a basic compound that has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of hydrogen ion concentration. It is also a component of chorionic gonadotropin, which is used to treat infertility in women and men with low testosterone levels. Bis(4-pyridyl)amine contains nitrogen atoms and coordinates to form a planar geometry, with the two pyridine rings at opposite corners of a square. The molecule has four hydrogen bonds, three of which are intermolecular and one that is intramolecular. This compound has been shown to have mineralocorticoid receptor affinity, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with hydroxyl groups on this protein.
