• Description: 2,3-Dibromo-1,4-butanediol is an ether that is used for the preparation of dioxane. It is a volatile liquid that has a strong odour and is corrosive to metals. 2,3-Dibromo-1,4-butanediol has been used as a reagent in the elution of elements from solids with chlorine and in the synthesis of polyester. It has also been used as a monomer in the production of diethyl esters. 2,3-Dibromo-1,4-butanediol can be used to produce dioxolanes by reacting it with formaldehyde or acetaldehyde. It also reacts with coordinated metal ions to form salts.
