Description

3-Methyl ellagic acid is a phenolic compound found in plants, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. 3-Methyl ellagic acid inhibits the transfer of urea nitrogen from the liver to other tissues, which may be due to its ability to inhibit enzymes involved in this process. This compound has been shown to have potent inhibitory effects on cancer cells and also has hypoglycemic effects, reducing blood glucose levels. 3-Methyl ellagic acid is also active against infectious diseases such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Helicobacter pylori. The mechanism of action of 3-methyl ellagic acid is not well understood, but it is thought that it may have an effect on bacterial DNA synthesis by inhibiting enzymes that are involved in the process.
