Description :
5-Cyano-2-methyl-6-oxonicotinic acid is an antimicrobial agent that can be used to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It interacts with aromatic aldehydes and hydrazine, which are common in industrial solvents and other chemicals. This interaction inhibits the bacterial cell wall by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. 5-Cyano-2-methyl-6-oxonicotinic acid also has an antimicrobial effect on Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
