Description

Benzyl 4-bromobutanoate is a naphthalene derivative that acts as a catalyst for introducing homoisoflavonoids into chlorides. This reaction is catalytic and proceeds via an intermediate benzyl 4-chlorobutanoate. The kinetic studies of the reaction show that the rate of the reaction depends on the concentration of benzyl chloride, and it is proportional to its molarity. The serum albumin is also involved in this process, with homoisoflavonoids binding to albumin in order to form a stable complex. This complex then binds to chloride ions, which are required for this reaction. The solubility of benzyl 4-bromobutanoate in water has been found to be dependent on pH such that it is soluble at low pH values but not at high pH values.
