Description :
This drug is a prodrug that is metabolized by hydrolysis to form the active metabolite, 4-naphthalen-1-yl-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridin-3(2H)-one. It inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes and has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). The drug has been shown in animal models to have antiinflammatory effects and inhibit the development of colorectal cancer. This compound is an orally administered prodrug with high bioavailability following oral administration and a long half life. Its hydrophilic nature allows for it to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and distributed throughout the body. The compound is activated at higher temperatures and can be used as a thermal energy source.
