Description

A Cytomegalovirus IgM Hybrid human monoclonal antibody produced in mice, genetically modified to express human IgM heavy chain constant region.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a type of herpesvirus that can infect humans. Once a person becomes infected with CMV, the virus remains dormant in their body for life. While CMV infection is usually asymptomatic in healthy individuals, it can cause significant illness in people with weakened immune systems and in newborns if the infection is transmitted from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Transmission of CMV typically occurs through close contact with bodily fluids, such as saliva, urine, blood, and breast milk, from an infected person. In healthy individuals, CMV infection often goes unnoticed or causes mild symptoms similar to those of other viral infections, such as fever, fatigue, and swollen glands. However, individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS, organ transplant recipients, and individuals undergoing certain medical treatments, may experience more severe and potentially life-threatening complications from CMV infection.
Characterized disease state sera are critical components in the development and manufacture of diagnostic tests. However, sourcing of these sera is complicated, time-consuming, and sometimes suitable material is not available at all. That is why we have available this reliably sourced and highly specific CMV IgM Hybrid Human Monoclonal Antibody. After being produced in mice, this product was concentrated and spiked into an IgG depleted and delipidised human serum matrix, to ensure that the final product is as close as possible to the natural disease state IgM positive human plasma. As part of the selection process multiple clones were analyzed by commercially available IgM assays and the clones with the most reactivity were selected for commercialization. Testing in both ELISA and bead-based applications shows the product to behave in an almost identical manner as the natural source.
