7-Oxo-β-sitosterol is a fatty acid that is found in plants. It is an oxidation product of campesterol and stigmasterol. 7-Oxo-β-sitosterol can be used as a substitute for campesterol and stigmasterol, which are not readily available commercially. This compound has shown anti-cancer activity against cancer cells in the liver and other tissues, as well as antipyretic properties. 7-Oxo-β-sitosterol has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in mice. The major metabolites of this compound are vanillic acid, long chain fatty acids, salicylic acid, and phenolic compounds.
