Vinyldiphenylphosphine (VDPP) is a chemical reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It is used to generate chloromethyl ketones, which are useful in the formation of methyl ketones. VDPP also reacts with sodium salts to form metal carbonyls, which can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of some metal-containing compounds. This compound has been shown to be useful for asymmetric synthesis through a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction with hydrochloric acid and a carbonyl group. The hydroxyl group on this compound has been shown to interact with a sterically hindered substrate, such as methyl ketones, leading to the formation of a more reactive product.
