1-(2,3-Dichloro-4-hydroxyphenyl)butan-1-one is a dipolar compound that has been isolated from aluminum. It can be prepared by the Friedel-Crafts acylation of chloroacetate with an ethyl group. The 1-(2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxyphenyl)butan-1-one molecule contains an acetone and two ether groups. The acetone is connected to the 2,3 dichloro group through a carbon atom and the two ether groups are connected to each other through a carbon atom. The hydroxyl group is also present in the molecule and it is attached to one of the chlorine atoms on the 2,3 dichloro group. Acetonitrile can be used as a solvent for this compound.
