• Description: 2,4,6-Tribromoresorcinol is a brominated phenol that is used as an additive in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. This chemical is also used to produce hypobromous acid, which reacts with primary amines to form conjugates. 2,4,6-Tribromoresorcinol is insoluble in water and has a high melting point. It can be quantified by UV spectroscopy and its purity can be determined by infrared spectroscopy. Impurities are quaternary ammonium compounds such as phthalic acid or tetrachloroethylene. The use of 2,4,6-tribromoresorcinol in lithography was patented in 1982.
