Description :
Dimethyl 2,7-naphthalenedicarboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the group of naphthoquinones. It is a potent inhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B). Dimethyl 2,7-naphthalenedicarboxylate interacts with the catalytic site of PTP1B, which results in inhibition of its enzymatic activity. This interaction prevents the conversion of PtdIns(4,5)P2 to PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 and inhibits insulin secretion from pancreatic cells. Dimethyl 2,7-naphthalenedicarboxylate may be used as a therapeutic agent for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.
