Hexamethyleneammonium hexamethylenedithiocarbamate (HMDTC) is a diammonium salt that contains an amine group. It is used as a corrosion inhibitor in the oil and gas industry. HMDTC has been shown to be effective at preventing corrosion of steel pipelines when exposed to hydrochloric acid and xylene, as well as high concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons. HMDTC also shows fluorescence properties, which can be measured by fluorometry. This property makes it useful for detecting the presence of organic solvents in water samples, where it can be used as a calibration agent for the determination of chloride concentration.
