Description

Tri-o-tolyl phosphite is a neurotoxic compound that inhibits the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another. It binds to a putative target molecule, which may be an enzyme or protein. The mechanism by which this compound induces neurotoxicity is not fully understood. Tri-o-tolyl phosphite has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase and also to exert an indirect effect on nerve cells through its interactions with amino acids. This compound also has been shown to have a low toxicity in rats, suggesting that it has low potential for environmental impact.
