Description

Sec-butyl ethyl ether is a colorless liquid that has a pleasant smell and is used in the fragrance industry. It is synthesized by the reaction of 1,2-dibromoethane with butanol. The chemical structure of sec-butyl ethyl ether consists of a C4H8O group attached to an ethoxy (C2H5O) group. The functional groups present in sec-butyl ethyl ether are -CH3, -CH2-, and -C=O. Sec-butyl ethyl ether has many impurities, including methyl palmitate, which can be removed by distillation. The oxidation state for this compound is +1.
