9-Butyl-9H-purin-6-amine is a synthetic compound that inhibits the activity of enzymes involved in purine metabolism. This drug binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents it from functioning, which leads to an accumulation of substances such as adenosine. 9-Butyl-9H-purin-6-amine has been shown to be effective in inhibiting xanthine oxidase, which is a key enzyme in purine degradation. 9BPA also inhibits other enzymes such as carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I, which catalyzes the first step in pyrimidine synthesis. It inhibits f508del CFTR by binding to intramolecular hydrogen bonds, preventing it from opening or closing. 9BPA has been shown to bind with high affinity to benzyl groups and metal ions such as copper and zinc ions. The crystal structure of 9BPA bound to ferric ion has been solved using x-ray crystallography and
