Description

Dibenzyl L-aspartate is an amide and carboxylate that is used in pharmaceutical preparations. It has a hydrochloric acid group and a hydroxyl group with a 4-hydroxycinnamic acid side chain. Dibenzyl L-aspartate is soluble in water, and it is not very toxic to humans or animals when ingested. In vitro tests have shown that this substance has the ability to inhibit ectonucleotidase activity in human erythrocytes. This makes it useful as a diagnostic tool for the detection of ecto-nucleotideases, which are enzymes involved in the metabolism of nucleotides.
Dibenzyl L-aspartate has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis and lysine residues on proteins, which may account for its biochemical properties.
