Tin(IV) acetate is a compound that has been shown to have photocatalytic activity. It converts water vapor and carbon tetrachloride into hydrogen chloride and trifluoroacetic acid under the influence of light. Tin(IV) acetate also has an acidic nature, which can be used for titrations or as a catalyst for organic reactions. This compound is soluble in water, hydrochloric acid, and chloroform. Tin(IV) acetate is not soluble in ether or benzene. The structure of tin(IV) acetate has been determined by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.
