Decyltriethoxysilane is a silane with a decyl group and an ethoxy group. It has been used in coatings, as a monolayer, and to create polymeric matrices. Decyltriethoxysilane reacts with hydrochloric acid to form decylphosphonic acid, which is then reacted with fatty acids to produce immobilized decylsilane. The immobilized decylsilane can be used for the synthesis of polymers by using polymerization reactions such as the Grignard reaction. Decyltriethoxysilane also has biological functions and structural analysis capabilities. It can be used for molecule sequencing and structural analysis of proteins or nucleic acids via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
