Cis-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-2-carboxylic Acid (CABHA) is a potent inhibitor of serine proteases, including the aspartyl proteases, which are involved in chronic liver disease and hepatitis. CABHA inhibits the activity of these enzymes by binding to their active site and blocking the entry of substrates into the active site. It is also an inhibitor of dione hydrolase, which is involved in the formation of hydrogen peroxide from nitric oxide, thus preventing oxidative damage to cells. CABHA has been shown to be effective against boceprevir and gametocide, which are inhibitors that interfere with viral replication of HIV and HCV respectively.
