Description

Ethyl 2-nitrobenzoylacetate is a yellowish oil with a strong odor. It is a condensation product of ethyl benzoylacetate and n-dimethyl formamide, which can be obtained by the hydrogenation reduction of nitrobenzene. This compound has a nucleophilic nature and reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce ethyl 2-hydroxybenzoylacetate. Ethyl 2-nitrobenzoylacetate has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of many organic compounds, including pharmaceuticals such as monoethyl nicotinate and peroxide. The mass spectrometric analysis of this compound showed a molecular ion peak at m/z 393. The infrared spectrum also showed peaks at 2935, 1712, 1636, 1438, 1260, 1146 cm−1. There are no known biological properties for this compound.
